When you purchase a piece of artwork, note cards or a poetry book, you’ll be supporting our Art Therapy Program and the artists who created this art.
In Schurig Center’s Art Studio, Expressive Art techniques are utilized to help individuals connect their inner and outer worlds. Art, music, and poetry are used to help participants explore their feelings and emotions through non-verbal expression, which helps them gain insight into themselves and realize their potential. The creative process has proven to have a powerful impact of the recovery process from relearning fine motor skills to tapping a hidden talent. Learn more about how art heals the brain here.
Schurig Center artists are often invited to display their artwork at community art shows. Past shows have included the deYoung Museum and Marin Community Foundation. Proceeds from art sales to fund our Art Therapy Program with a percentage going to the artist. We are pleased to have the opportunity to share our artists’ work with the community…and with you!
A wonderful way to share our mission with the greater community while keeping in touch with your friends and family.

A Poetic Journey
Out of the Darkness: A Poetic Journey for People Living with Acquired Brain Injury celebrates the written and visual works of individuals who have suffered an acquired brain injury. The works in this anthology are a product of Rediscovery Project 2013, a San Francisco Bay Area based poetry and expressive arts group that explores brain injury through the lens of the archetypal Hero’s Journey. This anthology captures the rich landscape of living with brain injury and the healing that’s possible through sharing, witnessing and being in community.
“If you dedicate a little time to read these poems written by people living with traumatic and acquired brain injury, they will help you access within yourself a rare depth of vulnerability, courage, surprise and insight. Who wouldn’t benefit from more of that?”
– John Fox, The Institute of Poetic Medicine
