In the weeks after the shootings in Orlando, our Therapeutic Arts Program participants have been creating art to help process their emotions about the event as well as share loving kindness and support for all of the people whose lives have been affected by the shootings. This month, participants have been discussing community integration opportunities and strategies for exploring new interests. Clients planned and prepared for an outing to the Marin Humane Society’s “Compassion Corner” volunteer event where they enjoyed an afternoon of socializing with companion animals including dogs, kittens, rabbits, and even rats!
The outing provided an opportunity for participants to experience the healing power of animals in a safe environment, and the animals in turn benefit from receiving extra attention and socialization. Many new friendships were formed and great times were had by all!
