The garden that surrounds Schurig Center provides a therapeutic and learning experience for our program participants through horticulture. Horticultural therapy incorporates plants and plant-related activities to help improve the body, mind and spirit of the individual. Horticultural therapy is an accepted and effective tool that offers cognitive, social, psychological and physical benefits as well as improving one’s quality of life. Gardening can bring about surprising results, both in improving motor skills and in reducing stress. Therapeutic Program participants are provided a hands-on connection with the natural environment and life cycle. By caring for plants, individuals realize that they can have an impact on improving the ecosystem.
Join Our Host of Garden Angels
Without the support of people like you, Schurig Center would not be able to offer Horticultural Therapy as part of our Therapeutic Program. We need your help to be able to provide this unique opportunity for healing in nature after a brain injury.
It’s a very special program not available anywhere else in our area.
DONATE TODAY or join us in the garden as a volunteer.
Thank You!
Schurig Center’s beautiful garden has been lovingly created, designed and maintained by Marin Master Gardeners, Patricia Compton, and Karen Halverson and volunteers throughout the year. Through their constant nurturing and generous donations of plants, soil, and irrigation equipment, the garden has become an oasis of beauty.
We are also deeply grateful to Gwen and Martin Gans for their generous support of the garden with this dedication: “Gardening, a blessing which rewards us with joyous moments unique among healing endeavors.”
Donor Brick Walkway
If you are looking for a more “concrete” way to give to Schurig Center, we invite you to purchase a personalized engraved brick to complete the pathway in our garden. It’s a wonderful way to honor someone or a special occasion while also supporting Schurig Center’s mission. To purchase a brick, please contact the office at (415) 461-6771 or info@schurigcenter.org.
