Digging for Treasure

July 28, 2016

Our Therapeutic Program participants recently got to experience the joy of harvesting potatoes they planted months ago. They unearthed quite a haul!

The garden that surrounds BINBA provides horticultural therapy for our participants. Horticultural therapy incorporates plants and plant-related activities to help improve the body, mind and spirit of the individual, and is an accepted and effective tool that offers cognitive, social, psychological and physical benefits as well as improving one’s quality of life.

Gardening can bring about surprising results, both in improving motor skills and in reducing stress. BINBA participants are provided a hands-on connection with the natural environment and life cycle. By caring for plants, individuals realize that they can have an impact on improving the ecosystem.
