Schurig Center is pleased to share “Animal Tales” a collection of animal mixed media artworks and writing created by artists in our Art Studio. Artists spent art sessions creating the images and writings for this book. The artists reflected on the importance of animals in their lives, and how they provide friendship, inspiration, healing, and unconditional love. During the process of creating the images, stories, and reflections, the artists shared thought provoking experiences of the healing impact that animals have in their lives. Enjoy!
Celebrating Summer at Camp Schurig
Our Therapeutic Program participants recently enjoyed a day of traditional, FUN summer camp activities at “Camp Schurig!”
Participants started the day by following the trail of “bear paw prints” leading them to our “Base Camp” where the magic began!
Everyone (including staff) had to choose a unique “camp name” for the day. Campers enjoyed lunch on the patio followed by an action-packed day filled with awesome back-country games and activities, such as making tie-dye t-shirts, “fishing for prizes,” a wet and wild water balloon toss, and a “campfire” sing-a-long and stories by flashlight! And, of course, campers feasted on everyone’s favorite campsite treat…s’mores!
Planned at the suggestion of our Therapeutic Program participants, our Summer Camp Day was a wonderful way for us to socialize as a group and enjoy the fresh air and great outdoors here in beautiful Larkspur!
Through the experience of “Camp Schurig,” participants were able to reap the benefits of camping by refreshing and renewing their bodies, minds and spirits outdoors. The day also provided the opportunity for participants to practice interpersonal communication, active listening and social skills while promoting creativity and self-expression.
A great day was had by all!
Big, big thanks to all of our awesome volunteers
who helped made this special day happen!
Thank You Perry’s in Larkspur!
Schurig Center would like to extend a big thank you to Perry’s in Larkspur for hosting our guest bartender, Kati Miller, for an evening in late July.
Kati learned the art of mixology on the fly from Perry’s skilled bartending staff and honed her cocktail shaking skills. Martinis… cosmos… margaritas… she was making ’em all with a huge smile all night.
You might not be able to tell from the photo, but Kati had some serious fun!
We are also grateful for all the guests who came out to help Kati shake things up for the evening and to show their support for Perry’s and Schurig Center. Perry himself even joined in on the fun with us.
The cherry in the Manahattan…
Kati donated all of her hard earned tips from the evening to Schurig Center!
We hope you will join us in thanking community-minded businesses, like Perry’s, by stopping by for a yummy bite to eat and a drink soon!
